What you can look forward to.
As a train driver, you do great things: At SBB Passenger Transport, you move around 482 million travellers annually. After completing the paid 15-month dual training, your job will take you along the most beautiful railway routes in Switzerland. In doing so, you bring our passengers punctually to their destination, ensuring a positive travel experience with SBB. Your working day is also full of prospects with attractive framework conditions for all life situations. Night and weekend work is additionally compensated – for example, 16 francs per hour for Sunday work. For night shifts, you also receive time bonuses between 10 and 30 percent. This means you have more free time than employees without night and weekend shifts. Furthermore, after training as a train driver, you can individually arrange your workload from 60 percent upwards after consultation, with various part-time models available to you.
What you can achieve.
- As a train driver, you not only take the lead of the train but also bear responsibility for safety and punctuality on the heavily trafficked rail network.
- During your journey, you are attentive and respond quickly and correctly to signals, speed regulations, and unforeseen events.
- You act independently and are always in contact with operations centres and control rooms.
- In addition to driving and shunting trains, your duties also include checking the technical condition before and after taking over the vehicle.
What you bring with you.
- You have completed a three-year vocational training or the Matura. Your motivation is more important to us than the industry you come from.
- You approach challenges calmly, make considered decisions even in stressful situations, and are willing to work shifts.
- You are fluent in German (level C2) and have beginner knowledge of French (level A1).
- You have perfect colour vision (no red-green colour blindness) and have no entries in the criminal or debt registers.
- For the intensive and demanding training period, you bring a lot of personal responsibility and motivation and are willing to engage with different learning environments – from on-site classroom teaching to digital self-study.
Your salary and benefits.
Classification during the dual training is based on function and age. More about the specific salary for this role can be found under Career Change .
