We are looking for an experienced surgical technical assistant with specialisation or solid experience in Functional Neurosurgery to support our neurosurgical team in highly specialised surgical procedures.
We seek a professionally skilled, precise, and responsible individual familiar with the special requirements of functional neurosurgical procedures who works in a structured and forward-looking manner even in complex operating situations.
Responsibilities
- Establishment, nursing management of the operating theatre, and leadership and, if necessary, qualification of the OTA team
- Preparation, organisation, and accompaniment of functional neurosurgical procedures
- Instrument handling and assistance during neurosurgical operations
- Willingness to support neurosurgical procedures outside the actual operating theatre (especially in treatments with focused ultrasound)
- Care and preparation of the required neurosurgical specialised instruments
- Care and maintenance of the surgical technology (e.g., operating microscope, navigation system, C-arm)
- Support in stereotactic procedures
- Experience in the field of Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) is an advantage
- Preparation and handling of stereotactic systems, implants, and other surgery-specific materials
- Ensuring a smooth and efficient surgical process in close cooperation with neurosurgery, anaesthesia, and other involved departments
- Development and further development of process management in the operating theatre
- Willingness to flexibly adjust working hours to the needs of the operating theatre if employed part-time
- Consistent adherence to hygiene, sterility, and safety standards
- Qualification in radiation protection when using fluoroscopy (C-arm) in the operating theatre
- Checking the completeness and functionality of instruments and technical equipment
- Documentation of relevant perioperative processes
- Anticipating the surgeon’s requirements during complex procedures
- Very good German and English skills, both spoken and written, are required to ensure safe and professional communication in an interdisciplinary and international environment.
What should you bring?
- Completed training as a surgical technical assistant with operating theatre experience or comparable qualification
- Several years of professional experience in the operating theatre
- Solid experience in neurosurgery
- Ideally practical experience in Functional Neurosurgery
- Experience with DBS, stereotactic procedures, and/or implantation procedures is a great advantage
- Very good knowledge of sterile working methods and operating theatre hygiene
- Confident handling of neurosurgical instruments and technical operating theatre equipment
- High level of precision, responsibility, and concentration
- Ability to work calmly and in a structured manner even during demanding and lengthy procedures
- Strong team skills and professional communication with doctors, nursing staff, and other disciplines
Especially important:
For this position, we are looking for an experienced OTA with solid neurosurgical operating theatre experience. Expertise in Functional Neurosurgery, especially in DBS implantations and stereotactic procedures, a high level of team spirit, enthusiasm for building a new surgical operation, willingness to take responsibility, and the ability to think creatively beyond the usual scope are particularly welcome.
