In this key role, you will actively shape Eawag’s safety and risk management, further develop it, and ensure that risks are identified, assessed, and effectively controlled at an early stage. You will combine strategic risk management with operational safety responsibility and work closely with the management, leaders, as well as technical and safety officers.

Risk Management (40 – 50%)
- You coordinate and further develop the institute-wide risk management system as well as the associated processes, methods, and tools, ensuring their implementation.
- You advise the management and risk owners on strategic and methodological issues and prepare decision-making bases for the responsible committees.
- You coordinate the annual risk management process and support the relevant research and support areas in identifying, assessing, and managing risks.
- You are responsible for maintaining and quality-assuring the risk catalogue as well as following up on risk measures.
- You coordinate and prepare the annual risk reporting for the management and the ETH Board.
- You act as a contact person for audits and reviews of risk management and coordinate the necessary documents and statements.
- You further develop information, training, and awareness measures and represent Eawag in relevant expert committees of the ETH domain.
- You take operational responsibility for safety coordination at the Dübendorf (ZH) and Kastanienbaum (LU) sites and advise management on safety measures, protection goals, and safety concepts.
- You coordinate the further development and quality assurance of safety requirements and demand-oriented training for laboratory, field, and experimental activities.
- You are responsible within your remit for general occupational safety and health protection, including hazard identification, planning of measures, and monitoring of safety-relevant requirements.
- You implement safety-relevant measures within your area of responsibility and involve external experts if necessary.
- You coordinate and supervise emergency organisation and drills, support the internal crisis organisation in the event of an incident, and ensure deputy leadership of the crisis management team.
- You participate in the Occupational Health Management team or the responsible steering group and coordinate interfaces between occupational safety, health protection, and occupational health management.
- You coordinate and accompany audits, inspections, and official visits and maintain cooperation with authorities, specialist offices, and external safety partners.
- You represent Eawag in safety committees and working groups of the ETH domain.
- Several years of professional experience in risk, safety, or quality management, ideally in a complex research, university, or technically oriented environment.
- Completed university degree or comparable qualification, ideally related to risk management, safety, natural sciences, engineering, or a related field.
- Sound knowledge of risk management, ideally according to ISO 31000, as well as a good understanding of safety and health protection topics.
- Training as an ASGS specialist or ASGS expert.
- Many years of experience advising executives and coordinating cross-departmental processes, projects, and groups.
- Structured, independent, and solution-oriented working style as well as the ability to communicate complex matters clearly.
- Confident communication in German, another national language, and English, as well as a confident and authoritative manner towards different stakeholders.
