About the job
At the University of Basel, a professorship in Religious Studies (100%) is to be filled as of 1 August 2027 (or by agreement). The professorship is bi-faculty, affiliated with the Faculty of Philosophy and History and the Faculty of Theology (from 1.8.27 Faculty of Theology and Religion). The position will be filled as Associate Professor or Full Professor depending on the qualification of the future incumbent.
Your Responsibilities
You will lead the Department of Religious Studies, represent the subject in research and teaching, and develop it creatively in response to contemporary challenges. You will actively engage in interdisciplinary collaboration within the Faculty of Theology as well as the Faculty of Philosophy and History and shape interdisciplinary cooperation inside and outside the University of Basel (for example, at the Centre for Religion, Economy and Politics).
Your Profile
We are seeking a personality proven in academic teaching with outstanding scientific qualifications (habilitation or comparable qualification) in Religious Studies, who has distinguished themselves with pioneering, internationally visible publications. In addition to a focus on theories and methods of Religious Studies, you bring expertise in a religious tradition and its cultural interconnections in today’s society (for example, Islam).
You have experience and interest in interdisciplinary cooperation inside and outside the university, a strong ability for teamwork and mentoring early-career researchers, leadership skills, as well as great commitment to the subject, third-party funding acquisition, and university self-administration.
