In the Department of Sport Pedagogy and Health Development of the Department of Sport, Exercise and Health (DSBG) at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Basel, a fixed-term position for four years is to be filled from 01.12.2026.
The focus of our department is on the relationship between physical activity and cognitive performance in the developmental process. Contextually, we examine transfer effects on school performance and various aspects of health. The topic of the doctorate includes researching the cognitive effects of a physical activity intervention in kindergarten age, which may include, for example, exergaming, embodiment approaches, dance or other forms of activity. Our working group pursues a methodological approach that investigates behavioural changes together with neurophysiological processes (e.g. using functional near-infrared spectroscopy, eye tracking or electroencephalography).

Your Tasks
- Familiarisation with a neurophysiological measurement method
- Planning, conducting and analysing research projects in the department's field of expertise
- Writing scientific publications in international journals
- Active participation in national and international congresses
- Implementation of measures for science communication
- Support in supervising bachelor theses
- Planning and conducting a seminar in the spring semester
- Support in academic self-administration
Your Profile
- Completed master’s degree in sports science or a related field
- Very good knowledge of quantitative research methods
- Willingness to develop expertise in various measurement techniques
- High self-motivation as well as very independent and structured working style
- Experience in working with children
- Very good language skills in German and English
