The EOC, the multi-site hospital of Ticino, is present with its institutes throughout the entire cantonal territory for a total of 1,000 beds. The organization effectively combines a local approach with an overall vision, guaranteeing the population a comprehensive and nearby hospital offer, regardless of where the services are requested.

Head of Medical Area (100%)
Purpose of the role:
The person responsible for the Medical Area will be tasked with ensuring, in compliance with current laws, directives, and EOC strategies, the definition and implementation of development plans for the organization of the Medical Area, as well as the oversight and supervision of medical activities carried out in all EOC Hospitals and institutes.
The position reports directly to the General Director and is a member of the EOC General Management.
Main duties of the role:
- Contribute to defining EOC's strategies and development plans by coordinating the elaboration of policies in the medical field (organization, processes, best practices), aligned with the orientations of the Board of Directors and General Management.
- Coordinate the development of an overall medical structure, monitoring inter-hospital organizational changes and interacting with local health management to ensure consistency with the overall project and the specific needs of individual institutes.
- Work closely with local health management to promote internal cohesion, alignment of medical policies, centrality, and continuous improvement of clinical quality, ensuring that activities and related policies align with EOC's strategic objectives.
- Define the organizational strategy of the Medical Area to address emerging challenges in the healthcare system, creating cohesion among various professionals and enhancing the human and professional skills of collaborators.
- Promote, in collaboration with the Medical Training and Research Area (AFRi), the professional development and continuous training of medical and healthcare staff, also through collaborations with academic institutions and research centers, to maintain high clinical standards and foster innovation and updating.
- Encourage internal mobility among EOC Hospitals/Institutes and the sharing of skills and best practices, ensuring flexibility and optimal use of resources.
- Coordinate the selection process for Chief and Deputy Chief roles, in collaboration with other competent EOC figures.
- Collaborate with the functions responsible for the strategic management of EOC medical staff, with particular attention to well-being and human resource development.
- Lead clinical quality improvement projects in all EOC medical structures through proposing and adopting updated guidelines, improving processes, and implementing best clinical practices, constantly monitoring results and the effectiveness of adopted policies.
- Ensure that the care provided is innovative, appropriate, and based on the most recent scientific evidence.
- Promote the application of technological innovations in patient care, adhering to the highest ethical standards.
- Define and oversee, in collaboration with EOC Chiefs, the implementation and monitoring of clinical governance, ensuring alignment with quality and safety standards, promoting a culture of best clinical practice, and encouraging the adoption of innovative and sustainable care models.
- Define and implement an EOC strategy on patient involvement so that patients can have a central role in care pathways.
- Collaborate and support the Medical Training and Research Area (AFRi) to encourage clinical research in all EOC healthcare structures.
- Collaborate with the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences of the University of Italian Switzerland, managing relations also with other academic institutions present in the territory, particularly SUPSI.
- Know and collaborate with territorial partners, with DSS, particularly UMC and UFC, OMCT, as well as with the related medical circles. Enhance collaboration between EOC doctors and medical colleagues present in the territory.
Skills and experience:
- Consolidated experience in leadership roles in hospital contexts, with responsibility for leading and coordinating teams and resources.
- Excellent organizational skills: ability to manage complex projects, define priorities strategically, and operate effectively in a dynamic environment.
- Proven experience in managing and implementing change processes, with the ability to build consensus among different stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills to clearly interact with colleagues, patients, and stakeholders, fostering a climate of collaboration and transparency.
- Ability to build and maintain trust relationships with various categories of interlocutors, both internal and external to the organization.
- Ability to create team spirit: experience in building and motivating cohesive and united teams, promoting collaboration and well-being within the organization.
- Excellent knowledge and relevant management experience within the Swiss healthcare system; having held a role in the executive committee of a specialist medical society, and/or an organization active in the healthcare field at a multidisciplinary level and/or experience in federal commissions.

Titles and technical requirements:
- Educational qualification: Federal diploma as a medical doctor and FMH specialization or equivalent title.
- Academic experience: title of Professor at a Swiss university.
- Language skills: mastery of national languages (Italian, German, and ideally French), as well as excellent knowledge of English.
