About the job
Satom has a mechanical service that manufactures parts, tools and metal devices. They assemble devices, machines or robots, programme, control, maintain and repair industrial production facilities.
Polymechanics mainly collaborate with automation technicians, production mechanics and industrial draughtsmen and designers from the technical office.
During the training, the apprentice undertakes the following tasks:
- Project study and prototype construction;
- Industrial production;
- Assembly, installation and maintenance.
Training Description
Satom works in partnership with EPIC. The first 2 years take place in the EPIC workshop-school and the following 2 years in the partner company, Satom SA.
- Apprenticeship lasting 4 years;
- Theoretical courses at the Sion vocational school (EPTM), up to 2 days per week (2 days during the first 2 years and 1 day thereafter);
- Inter-company courses complement the training with 54 days of courses over the first 2 years;
- Possibility to obtain a professional baccalaureate in parallel during the apprenticeship or after obtaining the Federal VET Diploma.
Career Prospects
Polymechanics must familiarise themselves with different generations of machines and continually improve to keep up with technological developments.
They can consider the following further training:
- Courses organised by schools and professional associations;
- Intercantonal diploma as industrial team leader or industrial foreman;
- Federal certificate as process agent, technical management specialist, production expert, maintenance agent or aircraft technician;
- Federal diploma as industrial production manager or facility management and maintenance manager;
- Advanced technician diploma in business processes, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, microtechnology or industrial systems;
- Bachelor of Arts HES in industrial and product design;
- Bachelor of Science HES in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, industrial systems, microtechnology, industrial engineering and management, energy and environmental technologies, Industrial Design Engineering or building technology.
