Founded in 1959 by Friedrich Gloor, Gloor Precision Tools AG has been one of the leading manufacturers of solid carbide special tools for more than six decades. The company, based in Grenchen (Switzerland), stands for the highest precision, innovative strength, and consistent specialisation. Certified management systems in quality management, environmental management, as well as occupational health and safety underline the high standards of quality and sustainability and provide a reliable foundation for long-term customer relationships.
With an export share of 58%, Gloor supplies customers in Switzerland, Germany, and the USA. Gloor develops and manufactures exclusively customer-specific tools – from form cutters to thread tools to complex gearing tools.
Martin Pfeuti, Head of Sales/Marketing and co-owner, emphasises that holistic consulting and close customer support have always been central strengths of the company. Sales are conducted directly to customers without intermediaries.
The combination of profound expertise and many years of experience enables Gloor to develop solutions precisely tailored to the respective applications.
With a team of around 50 employees and an international clientele, Gloor supplies demanding industries such as gearing and medical technology, key and watchmaking industries, turning technology, as well as machine and apparatus construction. The tools are often manufactured in the micrometre range – an accuracy that guarantees fundamental process reliability and repeatability. "Our goal is to develop tools that are better in every generation than their predecessors. This significantly reduces our customers' process and unit costs," explains Managing Director Daniel Flury.
At the end of 2024, Gloor moved into a modern new building in Grenchen, which was fully commissioned at the beginning of 2025. The new production environment offers optimal conditions for manufacturing highly complex tools with shaped and profiled grinding wheels, for which Gloor uses patented processes – for example, to produce finely toothed profiles with up to 200 teeth.
Software Expertise Meets Grinding Expertise
The close collaboration with NUMROTO forms the digital backbone of production. Since the first NUMROTO-equipped machine in 2018, the machine park has been continuously expanded. Today, Gloor relies on state-of-the-art CNC grinding machines from Strausak, TTB, and Vollmer – all programmed uniformly with NUMROTO.
For Gloor, NUMROTO has a decisive influence on productivity and precision. Collision control, process-integrated measuring, as well as 2D and 3D simulation are indispensable and ensure maximum process reliability – especially with complex profiles and tight tolerances in the micrometre range. "NUMROTO is the most precise and at the same time user-friendly software on the market for us. New employees require surprisingly little training to be productive," emphasises Martin Pfeuti.
Complex tools that previously required significantly more manual programming work can now be prepared, simulated, and manufactured with the highest precision more efficiently thanks to NUMROTO, even with demanding materials such as titanium or stainless steel. Patrick Erb, Deputy Head of CNC Production, clearly describes the difference: "Today, thanks to NUMROTO, we can simulate every tiny detail in the micrometre range."
The high-resolution simulation method in the 3D special functions makes it possible to detect and correct even the smallest inaccuracies in the programme in advance, so that the first tool already lies within the specified tolerance. This is not insignificant given the long service life of the tools.
This digital transparency significantly increases process reliability and enables demanding geometries to be implemented faster and more reliably.
Gloor's tools are partly ground with specially profiled grinding wheels – a technology that requires the highest precision. Profile tolerances in the range of ±1 micrometre are standard. The 2D simulation based on grinding wheels, the exact definition of profiles, and automatic collision avoidance are indispensable for Gloor. "Especially with gearing and thread tools with very many cutting edges, the software's performance becomes apparent," Erb continues.
The automation of the machine park also enables unmanned production overnight or at weekends. The accuracy remains constant – another advantage of the clearly structured NUMROTO operating concept. "The fact that a large part of our machines work with NUMROTO and are programmed according to the same operating principle creates enormous efficiency. This reduces complexity and strengthens our team's flexibility," adds Flury.

Gloor pursues the clear goal of further digitising precision manufacturing and offering customers worldwide even more efficient, durable, and form-true tools. The close partnership with NUMROTO remains a central component for future innovations.
Pfeuti summarises the future perspective: "We want to continue to offer our customers the best solution – technically, economically, and qualitatively." Flury adds: "We are growing, but we remain true to our values: precision, reliability, and partnership-based collaboration."
