About the job
Sick, convalescent, elderly and disabled people are often severely limited in their mobility. The Red Cross driving service helps ensure that these people can still get to their important appointments and back home again: whether it is to the doctor, to therapy, or even to a funeral. The personal and careful care not only provides relief in everyday life, but also makes a significant contribution to maintaining the independence of these people. At the same time, social contacts are enabled for all involved persons. As a Red Cross driver, you make a decisive contribution to the quality of life of people with limited mobility as well as to our society as a whole.
Your task
You drive our passengers safely and punctually to the desired appointment with your own private vehicle. You pick up the clients at the agreed place and help them get in and out. You stow any aids or the wheelchair in the boot of your vehicle. You accompany the passenger to the doctor’s or therapy practice at the destination and pick them up again after the appointment. If necessary, you also assist in finding the right department in the hospital or in reading building descriptions.
Requirements
▪ You enjoy driving and have a valid, definitive Swiss driving licence (after the three-year probationary period).
▪ You have basic knowledge of the German language (everyday conversation possible).
▪ You are sociable, open-minded, and physically and mentally fit.
▪ You have the necessary patience for your passengers, are helpful and a good listener.
▪ You handle the information entrusted to you confidentially.
▪ You are willing to use your private vehicle for trips.
Collaboration
The staff of the regional office are there for you if you have questions or uncertainties related to your voluntary work. They support you with problems, provide the necessary backing and organise your assignments. It is up to you personally how many trips you want to take on. Before your first assignment, you will sign an agreement for your short-term assignment, which can be terminated at any time by mutual consent.
