What awaits you.
At 15 sites in Switzerland, the SBB firefighters - Intervention, with their 350 committed employees and modern intervention vehicles, ensure rapid and safe incident management. We are both railway specialists, locomotive drivers and firefighters, ensuring the safety of our customers 24 hours a day. Thanks to your collaboration, you contribute to the resumption of rail traffic as quickly as possible. As part of incident management, the SBB firefighters - Intervention support public emergency organisations. You consider irregular hours and shift work an advantage to enjoy your free time while others work. With us, working nights and weekends entitles you to additional pay, for example CHF 16.- per hour for Sunday work. Time bonuses of 10 to 30% are granted for night work, giving you more free time.
What you can move.
- In case of alarm and exercises, you intervene as a locomotive engineer with the fire and rescue train with your team and ensure the safety of our customers.
- In the event of an incident affecting rail traffic, you share responsibility for the protection of people, animals, the environment and railway infrastructure.
- On site, you ensure the safety of all passengers, fight fires on and near the tracks, provide hydrocarbon and chemical defence as well as technical assistance. The use of drones allows rapid assessment of the situation.
- You regularly train in various processes and work techniques to ensure smooth event management at all times. In this context, you work in shifts, 24 hours a day, Monday to Friday, and provide on-call service at weekends. Irregular working hours are the norm. They have the advantage of allowing you to practise winter sports during the week when the slopes are clear and to organise your free time flexibly.
What you bring.
- Thanks to your strong sense of responsibility and safety, you understand the interdependencies and consequences for your team as well as your work. For us, team spirit and the community you can rely on at all times are paramount. This means you enjoy working independently and are physically and mentally resilient.
- You have completed an apprenticeship with a Federal VET Diploma (CFC). You already hold a category B100 motor vehicle licence or are willing to undertake the corresponding paid internal training.
- Holder of a category B driving licence and ideally category C1 118.
- You have respiratory protection aptitude and experience as a firefighter.
- You communicate fluently in French (both spoken and written) and are willing to obtain a German certificate at level A1+.
- As part of the application process, we will request a current extract from your criminal record and debt enforcement and bankruptcy register (dated less than three months). This document can be ordered at the time of the invitation to a personal interview.
