Head of the Justice Department

The Justice Department within the Department of Security and Justice combines central enforcement tasks and supervisory functions. It includes the departments of Correctional Services, Migration and Passport Office, Road Traffic and Shipping Office, Debt Enforcement and Bankruptcy Office, as well as Civil Status and Citizenship Services. The Measurement Office is administratively attached. The management of the Justice Department acts as an interface and hub to the Department of Security and Justice leadership.

We are looking for an experienced administrative lawyer as

Head of the Justice Department

starting August 1, 2026, or by agreement, with the workplace in Glarus.

Tasks

• Professional, personnel, and organizational leadership and further development of the Justice Department
• Subsidiary legal advice and professional support of the subordinate specialist areas
• Support of executives as a coach and sparring partner in demanding personnel and organizational matters
• Drafting of legislative proposals as well as preparation of administrative and government matters and preparation of statements and templates for the department, government council, and cantonal council or cantonal assembly
• Planning and reporting (budget, financial plan, activity report, multi-year and annual planning)
• Organization, supervision, and control over the enforcement of legislation or statutory tasks within the area of responsibility
• Representation of the Justice Department towards authorities, courts, media, and the public

Requirements

• Completed master's degree in law, ideally with a lawyer's license
• Administrative experience in individual specialist areas is an advantage
• Resilient and implementation-strong leadership personality with experience in strategy and organizational development issues
• Negotiation skills and confident appearance
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
