What you can look forward to.
You will undertake a varied, paid 9-month full-time training. The theoretical training takes place in Olten or Zurich and you will gain your first practical experience at a regionally assigned shunting yard. You see irregular working hours and shift work as an advantage to enjoy your free time while others are working. Night and weekend work are additionally compensated, e.g. with an hourly wage supplement of 16 francs for Sunday work. For night shifts, you receive time bonuses of 10 to 30%, which allows you more free time. Benefits such as a free GA travelcard, discounted travel abroad – also for the family – can be found on our website under Benefits and more information about the profession can be found here.
What you can achieve.
- As a construction train driver, you make a significant contribution to ensuring the renewal of routes (tracks, ballast, etc.).
- You independently perform and conduct various and complex shunting movements of trains up to a maximum of 100 km/h, assemble and disassemble them, and prepare them for the journey.
- To ensure regional logistics, you design, apply for, and order driving schedules on time and are responsible for supplying construction sites with the necessary materials.
- You bear a high responsibility for the operational safety of construction trains. Checking the safety of the worksite and preparing reports complete the tasks.
- Additionally, you will be deployed as a construction train driver on the construction site and your craft skills will be required.
What you bring with you.
- For this demanding work, you are conscientious, reliable, a team player, and willing to work in a 24-hour shift system.
- You are physically and mentally resilient and can act consciously and correctly with your independent working style.
- You have at least a two-year recognised vocational training including a certificate of competence, ideally in the construction industry and with experience in track construction or a completed Matura.
- Fluent German skills (level C1) in spoken and written form are required.
- You hold a category B driving licence.
- You have perfect colour vision (no red/green weakness) and have no entries in the criminal or debt register.
Your salary and benefits.
The classification during the second training is based on the function and age. More about the specific salary for this role can be found under Career Change .
