Job Description

The Faculty of Social Sciences and its Institute of Gender Studies are opening applications for an 80% A2 Assistant position including:

-The completion of a doctoral thesis on a topic related to gender studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences;

-Teaching assistant duties (a seminar "Introduction to Qualitative Methods", a seminar "Inequalities of All Kinds", a Master's seminar in gender studies to be defined), including preparation, invigilation and marking of exams as well as monitoring and supervising students;

- Participation in the doctoral programme in gender studies of the Western Switzerland University Conference (CUSO) and in the research animation activities of the Institute of Gender Studies.

Required Qualifications and Skills

The ideal candidate must hold a Master’s degree in Social Sciences (gender studies, sociology, political science, contemporary history, cultural geography, anthropology...) and have skills in qualitative methods (for first-year Bachelor teaching).

The candidate must have skills and a clear interest in research in gender studies and in fields related to the areas of expertise of the Institute of Gender Studies.

Fluency in French (spoken and written). Good level of English.

Additional Information

The candidate will be appointed for an initial period of two years. The appointment is renewable for two successive periods, respectively of two years and one year. The maximum duration of the assistant position is therefore five years. The position is funded by the Department of Public Instruction (DIP). The thesis topic must be officially submitted to the Faculty before the end of the first year. The thesis will be supervised by a professor of the Institute of Gender Studies whom the candidate will identify during their first year of contract. Doctoral assistants are employed in grade 8 and, in principle, step 4 of the Geneva State salary scale.
