The Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) is one of the five Swiss university hospitals. Thanks to its collaboration with the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne and EPFL, CHUV plays a leading role in medical care, medical research and education.
The Institute of Microbiology (IMU) is an academic centre bringing together around 140 collaborators around three main missions: microbiological diagnosis of infectious diseases, applied and fundamental research, and teaching.
Its diagnostic sector includes several specialised and accredited laboratories. The microscopy, antibiotic resistance and culture laboratory processes nearly 300 samples per day and has a team of 21 collaborators.
Thanks to an automated chain, state-of-the-art instruments and phenotypic identification and mass spectrometry techniques, the laboratory performs analyses for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes to detect pathogens. It works closely with other IMU laboratories to ensure a comprehensive approach to infectious disease diagnosis.
