Satom SA has a reception service for materials from three sectors of activity, namely: Unloading area – Recycling centre – Weighing
- The 1st year consists of receiving and sorting materials to direct them to the appropriate recycling channels. Quickly, the apprentice becomes familiar with waste intake management and weighing using specific software;
- The 2nd year takes place at the recycling centre managed by Satom SA with the aim of becoming autonomous in welcoming customers and organising the storage of materials, transfers of paper, glass, inert waste, etc.;
- The 3rd year consolidates the skills acquired in the first two years, namely reception, sorting, processing, storage, loading and customer advice. It is complemented by the management of special waste as well as goods dispatch.
Training Description
- Apprenticeship lasting 3 years;
- Theoretical courses in an intercantonal Romandy classroom in Fribourg, 1 day per week;
- In-company training, 4 days per week;
- Inter-company courses complement the training with 17 days of courses over the 3 years. They allow the apprentice to undertake internships in other sorting sectors to perfect their knowledge in all materials;
- Possibility to obtain, in parallel, a professional baccalaureate during the apprenticeship or after obtaining the Federal VET Diploma.
Career Prospects
Recyclers can work on specialised sites in well-defined sectors: scrap and non-ferrous metals, biological raw materials (paper, wood), plastics, textiles, minerals (construction waste, concrete, glass), electrical and electronic equipment, etc.
They can consider the following further training:
- Courses offered by training institutions and organisations from the world of work, environmental protection or sustainable development promotion;
- Federal diploma as a specialist in raw material processing, specialist for waste treatment plants, logistics specialist, technical-manager specialist, environmental advisor or nature and environment specialist;
- Federal diploma as a logistician, logistics manager or Supply Chain Manager;
- Bachelor of Science HES in energy and environmental technologies, industrial systems, mechanical engineering or industrial engineering and management.
