What you can look forward to.
As a train driver, you achieve great things: At SBB Passenger Transport, you move around 508 million passengers annually. After completing the paid 15-month dual training, your job will take you along the most beautiful railway routes in Switzerland. You will bring our passengers punctually to their destination, ensuring a positive travel experience with SBB. You see irregular working hours and shift work as an advantage, as you can enjoy your free time while others are working. Night and weekend work are additionally compensated, for example with an hourly wage supplement of 16 francs for Sunday work. For night shifts, you receive time bonuses of 10 to 30%, which gives you more free time. Furthermore, after training as a train driver, you can individually arrange your workload from 60 percent upwards after consultation, with various part-time models available to you. Learn more about the job profile at the next information event . Benefits such as a free GA travelcard, discounted travel abroad – also for family members – can be found on our website under Benefits.
What you will do.
- As a train driver, you not only take the lead of the train but also bear responsibility for safety and punctuality on the heavily used rail network.
- During your journey, you are attentive and respond quickly and correctly to signals, speed regulations, and unforeseen events.
- You act independently and are always in contact with operations centres and control rooms.
- In addition to driving and shunting trains, your duties include checking the technical condition before and after taking over the vehicle.
- Thanks to the precisely timed duty roster, you can finish work punctually and without further tasks or emails, enjoying your well-deserved free time.
What you bring with you.
- You approach challenges calmly, make considered decisions even in stressful situations, and are willing to work shifts.
- For the intensive and demanding training period, you bring a lot of personal responsibility and motivation and are ready to engage with different learning environments – from on-site classroom teaching to digital self-study.
- You have completed a three-year vocational apprenticeship or the Matura. Your motivation is more important to us than the industry you come from.
- You are fluent in German (level C2) and have beginner knowledge of a second national language (level A1).
- For safety reasons, you have perfect colour vision (no red-green colour blindness). Additionally, you have no entries in the criminal or debt registers.
