Job Description

To support this mission, Syngenta’s hiring team is seeking an Onsite Site Engineering Manager in Kaisten, Switzerland.
The Site Engineering Manager Kaisten is responsible for maintenance and engineering at the Kaisten site, including planning and implementing site-related projects. The role ensures the technical availability, safety, compliance, and economic optimisation of production, infrastructure, and building facilities.
As the technical partner to the Site Manager and a member of the Site Leadership Team, the role connects safe and reliable operational management with the long-term technical development of the site. It ensures that asset management, maintenance, investments, and continuous improvement align with business requirements, HSE guidelines, legal requirements, and Syngenta standards (especially SAMS/Global Maintenance Policy, Engineering Standards, and SPS principles).
- Lead the engineering and maintenance function at the Kaisten site and provide technical advice to the Site Manager.
- Develop and implement the maintenance and asset management strategy according to business requirements, asset availability, and Syngenta standards.
- Ensure safe, reliable, cost-efficient, and legally compliant operation of production, infrastructure, and building facilities.
- Lead, develop, and plan deployment of the engineering and maintenance team as well as external resources and contractors.
- Responsible for site-related investment projects (CAPEX), budgets, cost control, and schedule, quality, safety, and compliance targets.
- Develop long-term investment and renewal plans and identify technical risks and optimisation potentials early.
- Promote reliability improvements, root cause analyses, risk analyses, and best practice exchange within the regional/global engineering community.
- Provide technical expertise to fulfil the site strategy and long-term site development.
Qualifications
- Completed degree or equivalent qualification in a technical field, e.g. process engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, automation technology, chemical engineering, or comparable.
- Several years of experience in the process industry, ideally in the chemical or pharmaceutical industry, as well as in technical operations support, maintenance, engineering, or project management in a regulated industrial environment.
- Experience in leading, developing, and motivating technical teams as well as managing external service providers and contractors.
- Solid understanding of modern maintenance principles, asset lifecycle management, asset availability, shutdown planning, technical faults, and root cause and risk analyses.
- Experience in planning and implementing investment, optimisation, or technical improvement projects as well as knowledge in project planning, cost control, change management, and stakeholder management.
- Knowledge of HSE and process safety requirements in the chemical industry as well as relevant legal, technical, and internal standards.
- Confident use of engineering/maintenance management systems, technical documentation, budget, and reporting processes.
- Very good German skills and good English skills, both written and spoken.
