Research Officer at the Institute of Pathology
The Institute of Pathology at CHUV is seeking a biomedical research officer (postdoctoral researcher) at a workload of 80% to 100% within the framework of the TANDEM project. The position is offered on a fixed-term contract of one year, renewable, starting 1 December 2026.
Context
The Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) is one of the five Swiss university hospitals. Thanks to its collaboration with the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne and EPFL, CHUV plays a leading role in medical care, medical research and education.
The Institute of Pathology brings together diagnostic and research laboratories. The group of Prof. Laurence de Leval, specialised in lymphomas, is conducting with the Biomedical Data Science Center (Prof. Raphael Gottardo) a TANDEM project funded by the ISREC Foundation: "Digital Pathology Meets Spatial Proteomics: Transforming Precision Diagnosis of T-cell Lymphoma".
This project aims to improve the diagnosis of peripheral T-cell lymphomas by combining spatial proteomics and transcriptomics, single-cell sequencing, digital pathology and artificial intelligence. It notably relies on cyclic immunofluorescence (COMET™, Lunaphore), H&E imaging and Visium HD technology, in collaboration with teams from CHUV, UNIL and LYSA (France).
Mission
- You ensure the scientific management and monitoring of the TANDEM project in collaboration with the two principal co-investigators
- You develop and validate standard operating procedures (SOPs) for multiplex imaging and spatial profiling, and coordinate the production of quality data
- You perform image processing and quantitative analysis of spatial proteomics data
- You contribute to the development of a computational pathology pipeline combining H&E imaging, spatial proteomics data and machine learning
- You participate in the training and evaluation of generative AI models to predict multiplex markers from H&E images
- You develop reproducible multi-omics data analyses and contribute to the identification of biomarkers and biological mechanisms
- You ensure documentation, quality and reproducibility of analyses and collaborate with clinical, scientific and data science teams
- You participate in the dissemination of results through reports, presentations and scientific publications.
Profile
- You hold a doctorate (PhD) in biomedical sciences or data sciences
- You have experience in spatial biology, pathology or complex biological data analysis, ideally multi-omics or single-cell
- You are proficient in histological analyses, immunohistochemistry and multiplex immunofluorescence and have experience in interdisciplinary project management
- You possess strong skills in applied statistics for life sciences (linear models, generalised models, multivariate and association analyses)
- You master R and/or Python for data analysis and bioinformatics tool development
- You show a strong interest in fundamental, translational and clinical research as well as innovative data-driven approaches
- You demonstrate autonomy, initiative, creativity and rigour and have excellent collaboration, organisational and scientific communication skills
Depending on your profile, the salary class will be between levels 10 and 11 and the job description may be adapted.
