About the job
FINMA is committed to protecting creditors, investors, and insured persons as well as ensuring a healthy financial market. The goal is a preventive and risk-based supervision that is effective for the supervised institutions and strengthens their resilience. Supervision is risk-based and proportional, within the framework of integrated financial market supervision that takes into account all relevant developments in the financial center. The Recovery and Resolution division makes a decisive contribution to this goal. Together with the supervised institutions, resolution plans are developed and stabilization plans approved to ensure the long-term stability of the financial center. As a member of the Executive Board, you actively shape FINMA's long-term orientation and implement its overall strategy.
The ongoing activities of the Recovery and Resolution division include in particular:
- Development and implementation of the resolution strategy for systemically important institutions – banks, insurers, and financial market infrastructures – as well as assessment of stabilization and emergency plans and the feasibility of restructuring and liquidation
- Support of policy and regulatory work in the area of systemic importance and Too-Big-To-Fail
- International coordination and cooperation in the area of resolution
- Recovery and resolution measures as well as protective and insolvency measures for license holders, especially banks, securities firms, insurance companies, financial market infrastructures, and FinTechs
- Conducting insolvency and restructuring proceedings for financial institutions
- Leadership of employees in the Recovery and Resolution division (directly and indirectly) to effectively achieve our mandate
- Member of FINMA's Executive Board
- Completed academic education in a relevant field, supplemented by additional training (e.g., LL.M, MBA, doctorate)
- Several years of solid professional experience in financial market supervision
- Many years of leadership experience in a larger organizational unit, ideally with experience in an executive management role
- Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements in banking and insurance as well as relevant laws and regulations
- Deep expertise in financial and risk analysis, including evaluation of business models, financial metrics, and risk management systems
- Strong leadership and communication skills, negotiation skills, combined with diplomatic demeanor and high credibility
- Strong willingness and ability to foster and live collaboration across different areas and disciplines
- Strategic and networked thinking with high decisiveness and implementation strength
- High sense of responsibility, initiative, and integrity, experience in change management
- German or French at a high level (C2) and good passive understanding of the other language, as well as very good English skills (C2)
