Automation Engineer Industrial Plants (m/f/d)

Role:
In this versatile role, you are responsible for the stable operation and continuous development of the automation systems (OT) within complex production, logistics, and infrastructure facilities. You act as the central technical interface between operations, maintenance, IT, and external partners, ensuring high system availability with your expertise. In addition to maintaining existing systems, you actively participate in optimisation, modernisation, and digitalisation projects and apply your experience in industrial automation purposefully.
Responsibilities:
Responsibility for the reliable operation and further development of the OT automation landscape in the areas of production, logistics, as well as building and infrastructure technology
Analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex automation system faults including technical second-level support
Maintenance and optimisation of overarching systems such as HMI, SCADA, process control systems (PCS) and data historian solutions
Planning, implementation, and support of changes, expansions, and modernisation projects during ongoing operations
Ensuring high system availability through monitoring, fault analysis, and preventive measures
Supporting maintenance and project teams with technical questions related to automation and process informatics
Programming, adapting, and commissioning of PLC and visualisation systems
Maintenance and development of industrial communication structures with fieldbus and network technologies
Coordination of technical interfaces between internal departments, IT, and external system suppliers
Participation in preventive maintenance and continuous improvement of existing automation solutions
Willingness to take on remote on-call duties at second-level support
Qualifications:
Completed technical education as a FH engineer, HF technician, or comparable qualification in the field of automation technology
Ideally previous vocational training as a automation technician EFZ or electrician EFZ
Solid experience in PLC programming and commissioning of industrial plants
Very good knowledge of Siemens S7 (Step 7 Classic and TIA Portal) as well as WinCC
Experience with ProfiNet, ProfiBus and industrial communication systems
Practical knowledge in the area of OT/IT interfaces, process informatics, or networked automation systems is an advantage
Experience in industrial environments such as production, intralogistics, process automation, or plant engineering is desirable
Knowledge of EMS technology, control systems, and modern industrial plant technology
Analytical and structured working style with strong problem-solving skills
Initiative, sense of responsibility, and enjoyment of complex technical challenges
Willingness to collaborate with various departments and external partners
Willingness for on-call duty in technical second-level support
Fluent German language skills
