About the job
For our beautiful, regional and personally managed SPAR Fresh Market in Appenzell, we are looking for an apprentice from 2027 for the retail specialist apprenticeship EFZ. Located in the heart of Appenzell, a young and dynamic team works closely together. The large cheese counter and the Breitenmoser Appenzeller Meat Specialities AG integrated into the SPAR Fresh Market with over seven employees and two apprentices complement the team in the lower part of Appenzell.
Retail specialists in food sell various fresh products such as fruits, vegetables and cheese. But baked goods, confectionery products, meat, frozen products, canned goods, delicacies as well as beverages also belong to this.
Compiling the assortment:
- Present products in the sales area and in the shop window in a customer-oriented manner
- Order goods from the supplier or manufacturer, check the incoming goods and then store them properly
- Provide fresh goods in sufficient quantity and at the right time in the retail store
Serving customers:
- Inform customers about shelf life, nutrient content and composition of food
- Provide information to customers about new developments in the food sector
- Give tips on preparing dishes on request
- Cut, portion and pack goods on request
- Collect money
- Receive complaints and offer solutions
Administrative tasks:
- Label items with correct prices
- Monitor expiry dates of food
Focus areas
The choice of focus is made at the beginning of basic training depending on the company orientation. Training in the chosen focus area takes place in the 3rd year of vocational training.

- Conduct demanding customer and sales conversations in retail
- Create product- and service-oriented shopping experiences in retail
- Co-design customer events or sales promotions
Focus "Managing Online Shops"
- Maintain article data for the online shop and evaluate data on online sales and customer behaviour
- Manage product presentation and processes in the online shop
