About the job
The Justice of the Peace Office is the general conciliation authority in civil disputes. It is responsible for mediation in ordinary and simplified procedures in the field of civil law, with the exception of most family law disputes (e.g. divorces) as well as disputes arising from the rental and lease of residential and commercial premises.
Due to a resignation, the described position is to be filled as of 1 January 2027 or by agreement. The election is carried out by the Cantonal Council. The office is incompatible with employment in the cantonal administration.

What to expect- Conducting proceedings in the assigned conciliation procedures in civil and contract law
- Preparation and conduct of conciliation negotiations with the aim of an amicable settlement
- Drafting settlement proposals
- Issuing decision proposals and decisions in cases provided for by law
- Issuing the authorisation to sue to the plaintiff, if no other solution is possible
What you bring
- Completed law degree (MLaw, lic. iur.)
- Professional experience in court, legal practice or advisory or conciliation activities
- Mediation and negotiation skills
- Communication and teamwork skills
- Discretion, reliability and resilience
