Workplace Basel - North West Switzerland - SwitzerlandCategoryPositionPublished20 May 2026Closing Date21 June 2026At the Europe Institute / Institute for European Global Studies of the University of Basel, an assistant position in the Department of European Global Studies / Global History is to be filled from 1 November 2026 or by arrangement (Head: Prof. Dr Corey Ross).
The Europe Institute ( www.europa.unibas.ch ') ) is an interdisciplinary research institute of the University of Basel, which researches the development and present of Europe in a globally networked world and thus contributes to answers to central questions of our time.
Your tasks
- Support of the research work of the chair in the field of Global History / European Global Studies or Environmental History and History of Europe in a global context (18th-20th century)
- Preparation of a dissertation in the field of Historical Sciences or European Global Studies
- Assistance in the planning and implementation of teaching in the Department of European Global Studies / Historical Sciences within the interdisciplinary Master's programme European Global Studies
- Assistance in the planning and implementation of lectures, conferences, public appearances and publication projects.
- Active participation in interdisciplinary activities of the institute (e.g. presentation of research work at institute events) as well as in activities within the framework of academic self-administration.
Your profile
- You have completed your university degree in Historical Sciences with an excellent grade (consistently very high marks). You have already started or intend to start a dissertation in the field of Global History or History of Europe in a global context.
- Applicants with a degree in a related subject but with extensive historical training can also be considered.
- Particularly welcome are candidates interested in Environmental History, the History of Empire, History of Knowledge and/or Human-Nature Relations.
- You are sociable, work independently and precisely, have a talent for organisation as well as excellent German and English skills (oral and written).
