Internship Communication 80 - 100%Correctional Services and Reintegration (JuWe) is part of the Directorate of Justice and Home Affairs of the Canton of Zurich and is responsible for penal and measure enforcement as well as the implementation of various types of detention. For our 1,400 employees from around 40 professions, the successful social reintegration of offenders and the prevention of recidivism are of great importance.
As a public service, transparency is essential for us. We inform citizens, journalists, and other stakeholders about current events and developments in the JuWe institutions of the Canton of Zurich. What is it like to work in a prison? How are incarcerated persons supported in their reintegration? What role does work with relatives play? The communications department answers such and similar questions through traditional media work as well as via social media.
To complement our team, we are looking for a doer from 1 September 2026 or by arrangement, who is interested in diverse topics with social relevance. The duration of the university internship is 12 months.
Your tasks
- A good reputation is central to us. You will support us in making our topics understandable to the public. For this, you will assist in implementing measures in the area of public relations, such as media conferences
- We receive exciting enquiries almost daily. These can be from a media outlet or a student. You will help us coordinate and respond to such enquiries
- Social media is indispensable even in authority communication. We count on your collaboration in managing these channels and look forward to your involvement both in front of and behind the camera
- You enjoy writing and editing texts and also have a flair for visual storytelling (graphics, short film contributions/reels)
- You are proficient in PowerPoint and support us in creating impactful presentations
- You are confident in conducting interviews with our experts on current issues and fields of work at JuWe
- You assist us in writing texts for internal communication channels
Your profile
- You are interested in topics related to correctional services and ready to communicatively dispel clichés and present a realistic picture
- You have completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in communication, German studies, or social sciences with a focus on communication
- Ideally, you have initial professional experience in public relations, especially communication and media work, or some journalistic experience
- You have excellent knowledge of the German language
- You have strong skills in writing and editing texts and ideally experience in creating graphics (Canva) and video contributions (Adobe Premiere)
- You do not lose sight of things even in stressful situations and manage to prioritise tasks appropriately
- You bring quick comprehension, empathy, great enthusiasm for teamwork and collaboration, as well as a good sense of humour
