Nurse at Bois-Mermet Prison

We are looking for a nurse at an 80% activity rate, at Bois-Mermet Prison, starting 1 January 2027.

Context

The Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) is one of the 5 Swiss university hospitals. Thanks to its collaboration with the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne and EPFL, CHUV plays a leading role in medical care, medical research, and education.

The Penitentiary Medicine and Psychiatry Service (SMPP) meets all the health needs of the Vaud prison population. Its staff work directly in Vaud prisons, offering consultations to inmates.

Mission

• You carry out health assessments for newly incarcerated individuals
• You provide emergency and follow-up care in the somatic field
• You perform emergency interventions and critical situation assessments in mental health and long-term psychiatric follow-ups
• You provide prevention services, particularly regarding the risks of STI transmission
• You collaborate in network work with other care and patient reception institutions
• You organise coordination services with prison officer teams.

The diversity of populations encountered in this environment allows the development and practice of skills in somatic and psychiatric care. These are part of an interdisciplinary practice and involve an attractive versatility of clinical activities. Community health aspects are present daily.

Profile

• You hold a HES nursing diploma (or an equivalent qualification, as well as Red Cross recognition for staff qualified abroad, mandatory)
• You have several years of care experience
• You have experience with migrant populations or patients suffering from addictions, a plus
• You have a sense of autonomy and responsibility and good skills in negotiation, teamwork, and interdisciplinary communication
• You are sensitive to ethics and adopt a non-judgemental stance regarding the judicial background of detainees
• You have listening skills and sensitivity to social integration issues
• You are interested in the ongoing development of care quality in an environment dedicated to missions other than health
• Your commute should not exceed approximately 30 minutes to Lausanne and you hold a driving licence.
