In the Social Services department, we are looking for committed, team-oriented and responsible individuals starting 1 February 2027 and 1 August 2027 - for six months.
Intern in Social Services
Tasks
- Support in the care of inmates within the given daily structures, taking into account legal and operational rules
- Independently conducting admission interviews and drafting execution plans
- Support in material assistance and contact mediation in the areas of work, housing, finances and social assistance
- Preparation and review of applications for material and relationship leave and ensuring the leave process
- Administrative tasks such as general correspondence, file management, leave applications with programme checks, applications for conditional releases with recommendations and execution reports
- Interdisciplinary collaboration with correctional facilities and external agencies such as the Psychiatric-Psychological Service (PPD), probation and execution authorities, courts, migration offices and social welfare offices
- Participation in team meetings and projects
Profile
- Ongoing or completed studies in Social Work or Social Pedagogy (FH/HF)
- Interest in criminal law topics as well as willingness to engage with people in difficult situations and from diverse social and cultural backgrounds
- Confident and communicative personality
- High mental and physical resilience
- Initial administrative experience and strong organisational skills

About us
With around 1400 employees, Correctional Services and Reintegration (JuWe) is the largest office within the Directorate of Justice and Home Affairs and is responsible for criminal and measure execution as well as the implementation of various types of detention. Our employees from around 40 professions support and promote the reintegration of offenders and are committed effectively and progressively to a safe and just society.
The Zurich Correctional Facilities (VEZ) are one of eight main departments of JuWe. They comprise four operations with a total of 314 execution places and around 230 employees. The VEZ house persons in closed and open execution, semi-detention as well as in administrative detention for immigration reasons. The VEZ ensure the accommodation, care and employment of the persons housed and thus contribute to the prevention of recidivism and public safety.
As employees of the Zurich Correctional Facilities, we create a structured daily routine in different forms of execution and thus lay the foundation for stability and new perspectives for the persons housed.
The Affoltern am Albis prison with 65 execution places and around 35 employees specialises in the execution of sentences or remaining sentences of no more than 18 months.
