The Department of Medicine (DMED) provides comprehensive and specialised care for patients, both in hospital and outpatient settings. Within this department, the Pneumology Service cares for adults with acute or chronic respiratory diseases, ensuring their diagnosis, treatment and follow-up, either outpatient or inpatient. It is also specialised in lung cancer screening and management, interventional pneumology, pre- and post-lung transplantation follow-up, as well as prevention and treatment of tuberculosis and pulmonary hypertension.

This newly created position is part of the ALTER deployment, which aims to ensure compliance of work organisation with the Labour Law (LTr).

Job Description

As a head of clinic holding a specialist title in pneumology, you will be responsible for all clinical activities of the service and work in a university environment, at the interface of care, teaching and research. Through a quarterly rotation within the different specialised units, you will develop a diverse expertise covering both hospital and outpatient practice, demonstrating versatility. You will be involved notably in the management of interstitial lung diseases, pulmonary complications in immunocompromised patients, lung transplantation, interventional pneumology as well as sleep respiratory disorders, in close collaboration with the Sleep Medicine Centre.

You will join a close-knit team composed of 9 heads of clinic, 4 senior physicians and 5 junior doctors, under the responsibility of the head of service professor. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team including specialised nurses, respiratory physiology technicians, administrative staff as well as various centres and medical departments of the institution.

You will ensure diagnostic and therapeutic management of acute and chronic respiratory pathologies. You will participate in the evaluation and follow-up of complex situations, including dyspnoea, tuberculosis, respiratory failure and various medico-technical areas of the specialty.

You demonstrate resilience, clinical acumen and strong analytical skills in managing sometimes complex situations. Thanks to your organisational skills and ability to prioritise, you efficiently manage your clinical activities while responding to multiple demands (patients, phone calls, correspondence, meetings). You ensure clear, kind and appropriate communication with patients, their relatives and all professionals involved in their care, adapting your language to their understanding.

Relying on your team spirit, you show solidarity in the face of unforeseen events. As a head of clinic, you actively participate in the supervision and training of junior doctors in the Department of Medicine in the field of pneumology, adopting a mentoring role and sharing your expertise.

Qualifications

You hold a federal medical diploma or have training deemed equivalent by the Medical Professions Commission of the Federal Office of Public Health (MEBEKO).
 
You hold or are close to obtaining an FMH specialist title in pneumology or have an equivalent title recognised by MEBEKO and possess the cantonal practice right or are able to obtain it before starting your position from the Cantonal Medical Officer of Geneva.

You demonstrate a confirmed interest in hospital and outpatient activity in a centre that is both primary and tertiary. Good clinical experience and knowledge of the hospital environment are required.

For non-French speakers, a C1 level in spoken and written French is required.
 
You have excellent communication skills within a multidisciplinary team and with patients, you are dynamic, flexible, committed and discreet. Moreover, you have demonstrated strong adaptability and a strong team spirit and solidarity towards team members.

You work daytime hours, participating in the on-call rota for night and weekend shifts.
