Chief Resident (Deputy) in Liaison Psychiatry
The Department of Psychiatry is looking for a chief resident and/or a deputy chief resident at the Liaison Psychiatry Unit of the Northern Adult Psychiatry and Psychotherapy Service (SPPAN), at a rate of 60% to 100%, starting May 1, 2026.
Context
The Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) is one of the 5 Swiss university hospitals. Thanks to its collaboration with the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne and EPFL, CHUV plays a leading role in medical care, medical research, and education.
The Northern Liaison Psychiatry Unit (UPL) of the Northern Adult Psychiatry and Psychotherapy Service (SPPAN) is part of the recognized PLiNO postgraduate training institution for advanced training in consultation and liaison psychiatry up to 2 years (maximum category D2-CL); it is also recognized as a training site in psychiatry and psychotherapy, category C (2 years).
The UPL's mission is to provide consultation-liaison activities (adult and elderly patients) in the main somatic hospitals of northern Vaud: the eHnv of Yverdon-les-Bains, St-Loup and Orbe, the intercantonal hospital of Broye in Payerne, and the acute care hospital of Ste-Croix. These institutions have 375 A beds including 20 intensive care beds and 44 B beds. For several years, the UPL has also been heavily involved in the new regional emergency response system, an inter-institutional model supported by the General Directorate of Health of the State of Vaud. In this context, the UPL coordinates and leads the psychiatric emergency response, which includes reception, detection, and orientation activities for patients hospitalized in the somatic emergency and intensive care departments of the general hospitals of Yverdon-les-Bains (eHnv) and Payerne (HIB-Payerne site), as well as those consulted by the somatic mobile teams of the CMS.
Mission
- You supervise and oversee physicians, nurses, and clinical psychologist assistants within the scope of the Northern-Broye psychiatric emergency response system, as well as within the hospitals of northern Vaud: the eHnv of Yverdon-les-Bains, St-Loup and Orbe, the intercantonal hospital of Broye in Payerne, and the acute care hospital of Ste-Croix
- You carry out first and second line consultation and liaison psychiatry activities with patients from both areas (regional psychiatric emergency response and hospitals)
- You provide undergraduate (FBM-UNIL, UNIGE) and postgraduate (Forum Nord-VD, ISFM, SSCLPP) teaching activities in liaison psychiatry and psychosomatic medicine
- You provide specialized outpatient consultations for psychosomatic patients
- You contribute to the clinical organization of the Unit and to the training of staff
- You actively contribute to promoting inter-institutional collaboration and with network partners, as well as maintaining links with units of the same profile in the canton.
Profile
- You hold an FMH specialist title in psychiatry and psychotherapy (or equivalent) or are in the process of obtaining it or a title recognized by the Federal Commission of Medical Professions (MEBEKO)
- Ideally, you have an advanced training title in liaison psychiatry and psychotherapy or a clear plan to obtain it
- You are able to work in a multidisciplinary team
- You have an interest in teaching and clinical research
- You have a strong interest in the psychosomatic dimension
- For non-French speakers, you have at least a B2 level in French (certificate required).
