In the Kolingeviert Zug, one of the oldest neighborhoods outside the inner old town, several properties are owned by the city of Zug. In 2018, the properties Kolinplatz 19 and Kirchenstrasse 3+5 were renovated.
In a referendum, it was decided to restore the historic buildings with their richly equipped rooms and to modernize them. The restored floor coverings were complemented with the materials commonly used at the time and adapted in color to the spatial atmosphere of the past century. A complete renovation was created, which had to be preserved. Therefore, all valuable table and strip parquet floors were carefully restored, ensuring compliance with current fire safety standards, earthquake regulations, and sound insulation.Restoration and Modernization Kolingeviert, Zug

Patrick Röösli, dipl. Architect FH SIA Hans Hassler AG Zug was commissioned to restore all valuable Röösli Architects, Zug
parquet floors. In collaboration with architect Patrick Röösli, the restoration was carefully planned at the end of May 2018. This was followed by discussions, consultations, sampling, creating sketches, and a timeline. All valuable table and strip parquet floors were carefully dismantled. On the back of the parquet, information about its production in 1922 was discovered, suggesting that the parquet would be restored in the same workshop where it was originally made. The company was then called Geb. Risi, Alpnach-Dorf. After the old parquet was removed, the individual strips were transported to our partner company Britschgi AG in Alpnach. The delivered stacks of table and strip parquet floors were sorted, divided, nailed out, glued, and profiled. The defective elements were newly manufactured and complemented with matching elements. At the end of June 2018, we began reinstalling the dismantled parquet. The planning documents of architect Patrick Röösli and the model from 1922 served as a template for the reinstallation. The challenge lay in the various laying patterns and the precise installation of the parquet with the wall friezes and the many transitions and terminations. The surfaces were sanded and naturally oiled with oxidized oils from Rubio Monocoat. First, the mosaic panels in light/dark beech were laid diagonally with wall friezes. In various rooms, we laid solid wood parquet in muted beech in a herringbone pattern. In July 2018, we laid the old solid long strips in Douglas fir/spruce. Missing strips were supplemented with new raw wood, muted, and color-matched to the existing strips. In August 2018, the installation of the angle frieze panels in walnut/spruce and the corner frieze panels in walnut-maple began. With great expertise, attention to detail, and joy in beautiful restoration, our parquet layers carried out this work. Image credits: Hans Hassler AG, Regine Giesecke, Zug, Röösli Architects, Zug
