Job Description
The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Geneva, in collaboration with the Interfaculty Centre for Children’s Rights (CIDE), is opening an application for a full-time Associate Professor position in "Childhood Studies"
RESPONSIBILITIES: This is a full-time position including teaching at Bachelor, Master and continuing education levels, as well as supervision of Master’s dissertations and doctoral theses. The position is institutionally attached to the Faculty of Social Sciences, but activities will mainly take place within CIDE. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the academic life and governance of the Centre and to collaborate with the Faculty of Social Sciences and other partner faculties of CIDE.
The candidate will be expected to teach within the framework of the Interdisciplinary University Master in Children’s Rights (MIDE), located on the Sion/Bramois Campus, in the field of Childhood Studies.
The successful candidate will develop research at national and international levels in this field and contribute to the academic reputation of the Centre.
Required Qualifications and Competences
Doctorate in sociology, social sciences, or an equivalent qualification.
The selected specialist has recognised expertise in the field of childhood studies, demonstrated by publications in leading international journals and high-level research activity. Expertise in one or more areas such as children’s participation and agency, children’s citizenship, gender studies, critical studies of children’s rights, ethical issues related to research with children, child protection, life course, links between childhood and digital technologies or between childhood and sustainable development will be particularly appreciated.
The competition is open to candidates with diverse methodological skills and a strong ability to develop interdisciplinary research. Proven experience in obtaining competitive research funding is expected.
An advanced level of French is required; proficiency in English is a significant asset.
