The position is attached to the Department of Surgery . This department provides care for patients both electively and in emergencies. It represents a centre of excellence, not only in Switzerland but also in Europe in several fields and surgical specialties.

The Visceral Surgery Service cares for adult patients suffering from surgical conditions of the digestive tract organs such as the stomach, pancreas, intestine or colon, whether or not they require surgical intervention.

Job Description

To strengthen the existing team, we are looking for a research biostatistician or epidemiologist to join the Visceral Surgery Service and contribute, over a three-year period, to the national epidemiological study "Missed Opportunities for Ovarian Cancer Prevention During Digestive Surgery: A Nationwide Epidemiological Study", funded by Swiss Cancer Research (KFS-6636-02-2026).

You will report to the project leader and work closely with the Geneva Tumour Registry, ensuring both the clinical and epidemiological aspects of the role and independently managing the data and statistical analyses of the project through to their scientific dissemination.

You will develop, manage and validate the project’s research databases. You will be responsible for extracting, preparing and analysing data from Swiss tumour registries and hospital databases. You will perform statistical and epidemiological analyses (standardised incidence rates, survival analyses) and participate in the methodological design of studies. You will contribute to writing protocols, ethical applications, scientific reports and publications, and collaborate with various academic and institutional partners of the project.

Qualifications

You hold a Master’s degree in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology or an equivalent relevant field.

You possess solid knowledge in biostatistics and epidemiology, as well as in health data analysis (survival analyses, standardisation, use of registries and hospital databases).

You are proficient in a research statistical software (R, SAS, Stata or Python) and in good practices for reproducible coding.

You have a good command of French and English, both spoken and written. Knowledge of German is an asset.

You have at least two years’ experience in a similar position or in applied health statistics, ideally with registry data or large health databases.

You demonstrate rigour, autonomy, analytical skills, organisation and an ability to work in a team within a multidisciplinary environment.
