The Astronomical Institute of the University of Bern researches in various fields of astronomy and space research and operates the observatory in Zimmerwald with 5 telescopes. About 35 employees work with various systems, operating systems, and applications. We are looking for a helpful, solution-oriented, and creative IT Support (50%, 2 years)
Tasks
• Establishing and maintaining a scientific storage system including system monitoring
• Designing and implementing a backup concept for all important servers, storage, workstations, measurement data, and software.
• Processing and resolving tickets including documentation and updating relevant knowledge
• Maintaining and monitoring the servers at the institute (Linux and Windows)
• Handling support requests for Linux, Mac, and Windows
• Installation and maintenance of systems in the observatory, peripheral devices, and communication tools as well as their software and interfaces. Documentation of the systems.
Work at the institute is very diverse, and openness to new systems and applications is essential. Through good collaboration with the IT services of the University of Bern, you will learn about new solutions and have diverse areas of work. You will spend about 1-2 days at the observatory in Zimmerwald and about 1-2 days at the Astronomical Institute near Bern train station.
Your Profile
• Training as an IT specialist EFZ or an equivalent education or training
• Several years of experience in IT support, with ticketing tools and various user questions
• Very good knowledge of Unix operating systems, MacOS, VMWare, network and storage management
• Good knowledge in the areas of Windows operating systems, permission management (Active Directory), networks, and peripheral infrastructure
• High customer and service orientation as well as a pronounced quality awareness with well-developed communication skills (German and English, oral/written)
• Strong interest and motivation to learn new things and to integrate changes openly. A team player who enjoys working with different groups and in an academic environment.
