What you can look forward to.
At SBB Cargo, you are at the heart of the Swiss economy. SBB Cargo transports 185,000 tonnes daily, relieving the roads of 15,000 lorry journeys per day and the environment by 460,000 tonnes of CO2 annually. An innovative working environment awaits you, where you will move SBB Cargo together with your team colleagues. In addition, you will receive a varied and paid training at the marshalling yard. Furthermore, various further training opportunities are available to you, such as training to become a shunting locomotive driver. Attractive working conditions are important to us, even with irregular working hours. Night and weekend work is additionally compensated – for example, 16 francs per hour for Sunday work. For night shifts, you also receive time bonuses between 10 and 30%. This means you have more free time than employees without night and weekend shifts. Possible start dates 2026:
- 1 August 2026
- 1 October 2026
What you can achieve.
- As a shunting specialist, you contribute to ensuring our customers are served reliably and punctually by preparing freight trains for their journey.
- You take over the wagons, carry out safety checks and prepare the train for the next journey through complex shunting movements.
- You record the necessary data for train management using personal, modern IT devices (e.g. tablet).
- By timely coupling and uncoupling wagons at the customer, you have daily direct customer contact. You receive their feedback and forward it to the responsible department if necessary.
What you bring with you.
- You are attentive, focused and physically resilient to successfully manage this demanding work in a 24-hour shift operation. You also enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ideally, you have completed basic training or already have professional experience in a craft, logistics or a comparable field.
- Since all instructions and documentation are electronic, you will quickly become familiar with digital tools.
- You are fluent in German (level C1) both spoken and written.
- You have perfect colour vision (no red-green colour blindness) and have no entries in the criminal or debt registers.
