Supervisor / Caregiver with Deployment in Administration and Central Office 80 - 100%With around 1400 employees, the Correctional Services and Reintegration (JuWe) is the largest office within the Directorate of Justice and Home Affairs and is responsible for penal and measure enforcement as well as the execution of various types of detention. Our employees from around 40 professions support and promote the reintegration of offenders and are committed effectively and progressively to a safe and just society.
The Zurich Remand Prisons (UGZ) are one of eight main departments of JuWe. They comprise seven facilities with around 735 prison places and about 500 employees. They are responsible for provisional detention, investigative and security custody, as well as early penal and measure enforcement until transfer to a correctional facility. Thus, they fulfil a central function within the Zurich justice system from the outset.
As part of the UGZ, Horgen Prison specialises in remand detention for adult men and has 51 detention places.
To complement our team at Horgen Prison, we are looking for a committed, open-minded and humorous personality to start immediately or by arrangement.
Your tasks
- You accompany, care for and occupy detainees during their remand detention from entry to release and take on tasks in care, security and organisation
- You interact with detainees, visitors professionally, respectfully and appropriately and act clearly and de-escalatingly even in demanding situations
- You ensure an orderly daily routine, enforce safety and service regulations and handle crisis situations prudently
- In the central office, you ensure the safety of employees, detainees and third parties by operating security, surveillance and communication systems and by triggering the security protocol in emergencies
- You coordinate and manage the visiting system, receive gifts and ensure the necessary checks, including X-ray controls
- You take on administrative tasks such as reports and documentation and support the administration within the framework of relief substitutions, especially file management, correspondence and managing detainee accounts
Your profile
- Minimum age of 25 years and an impeccable reputation (no entries in the criminal or debt enforcement register)
- Federal VET diploma (EFZ), preferably in a commercial field, as well as several years of professional experience, preferably in a comparable role
- You are mentally resilient and flexible for shift, night, weekend and holiday duties
- You have technical understanding and enjoy working with security-relevant systems
- Very good German skills in spoken and written form; foreign language skills are an advantage
- Proficient in MS Office
- You approach people in a coercive context with a professional attitude, regulated closeness and distance, as well as the ability to recognise crisis situations early and act in a de-escalating manner
