For our performance laboratory in Zurich, we are looking for a Traction Test Engineer (m/f/d). In this exciting position, you will be part of our engineering team and play a central role in testing and validating modern electric drive systems for rail vehicles.

Your mission

As a Traction Test Engineer, you will work in a highly qualified team responsible for testing and validating traction and auxiliary power systems.

The transformation towards sustainable mobility is leading to a growing demand worldwide for powerful rail transport solutions. Alstom has been shaping this development significantly for decades. The testing phase is a crucial part of our projects. It combines technical challenges with practical engineering work and offers the opportunity to actively shape the performance, reliability and safety of our products.

Your tasks

In our modern test centre in Zurich, you will play a central role in validating and further developing innovative traction systems. You will work with state-of-the-art power electronics, conduct demanding tests and help ensure that our products meet the highest standards of performance, reliability and safety. You will combine practical laboratory work with systematic analysis and actively shape the mobility of tomorrow.

You will:

• Test and validate traction and auxiliary power converters
• Set up and commission electric drive trains as well as the required test bench and laboratory environment
• Conduct electrical, thermal, functional and performance tests
• Analyse measurement results, identify causes of faults and support their rectification
• Work closely with development, software and system engineers
• Qualify and evaluate power semiconductors (e.g. IGBT and SiC technologies) for existing and future applications in rail drive technology
• Contribute to the introduction and validation of new semiconductor technologies for innovative traction systems
• Take responsibility for the electrical setup and the safe execution of tests
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of our test processes and methods

Your profile

• Completed Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, mechanical engineering, software engineering or a comparable field
• Practical experience in the electrical engineering environment is essential; a completed vocational training in electrical engineering, electronics, automation technology or mechatronics is expressly preferred
• Enthusiasm for power electronics and new semiconductor technologies as well as interest in actively shaping their use in future applications
• Enjoyment of practical laboratory work and handling complex technical systems
• High sense of responsibility and independent working style
• Curiosity, willingness to learn and motivation to tackle technical challenges
• Ability to implement tasks in a solution-oriented manner and deliver results
• Strong team and communication skills
• Very good German skills and ideally good English skills
