Scientist on Novel Forest Ecosystems at the Insubric Ecosystems Research Group (f/m/d)
The Insubric Ecosystems research group is based in Cadenazzo, Ticino, where it investigates the evolution of forest ecosystems and future trends in ecological processes such as biological invasions and forest fires, as well as the impact of global change on the forests and their ecosystem services. The aim of this research is to gain a deeper understanding of the interactions between climate, environment, organisms, management, and natural disturbances on ecosystem processes and the provision of ecosystem services.

As an internationally recognized researcher, you will conceive and develop your own projects on topics related to emerging novel forest ecosystems in the Insubric region of southern Switzerland (Canton Ticino and Grisons), focusing on chestnut-dominated forests and their ecological and silvicultural challenges. You will be committed to applying scientific findings in practice and collaborating closely with relevant stakeholders, particularly in the canton of Ticino and the southern valleys of the Grisons. You will also be responsible for securing third-party funding for research projects and for maintaining collaborations with authorities and administrations at a regional, cantonal, and national level, as well as for joining international networks focusing on studying novel forest realities.
You hold a PhD and have an excellent scientific track record in the field of forestry and ecology, with a strong background in silviculture, enabling you to act as a consultant for other research projects within the group. You have an open-minded vision about nature conservation and resilience and are open to evaluate or formulate new ecological theories. You are team-oriented and appreciate frequent exchanges with your team colleagues. As an engaging person, you enjoy developing contacts with stakeholders, partner organizations and research institutions. You are fluent in Italian and English (both written and spoken) and have a good command of another Swiss national language (French or German).
