The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences in Switzerland. For our Materials Processes and Instrumentation group in the Magnets section, we are looking for a physics laboratory technician for the CHART project MagDev
Your tasks
- Design and manufacture (turning, milling, drilling) of simple production and testing tools, as well as experimental setups
- Planning, manufacturing, execution, and evaluation of process validation tests, e.g. soldering trials between superconductors and copper for current feed-in to the magnets
- Instrumentation of superconducting magnets with thermal, magnetic, and electrical sensors, including data acquisition and analysis
- Manufacture of coils from superconductors, under guidance

- Completed vocational training as a physics laboratory technician with a flair for mechanical work and simple constructions
- High motivation to engage with this exciting field, develop further, and find innovative solutions
- Independent and structured working style (documentation)
- Confident communication in English and interest in working in an international environment
