About the job
The Catholic Church of the City of Lucerne comprises a pastoral area with ten parishes, city-wide specialist departments, as well as an office. Our employees commit their skills to a lively and future-oriented church.For the Religious-Ethical Education department, we are seeking personalities as Principal and Vice-Principal Religious-Ethical Education (together 130% workload) starting 1 October 2026 or by arrangement.
The Religious-Ethical Education department currently includes the leadership, deputy leadership, an administrator, and around 25 religion and ethics teachers.
Religious-Ethical Education combines two areas: denominational religious instruction and denominationally and religiously independent educational offerings such as NMG projects and ERG modules. Religious-Ethical Education is undergoing a pioneering transformation process. From summer 2027, denominational religious instruction will be conducted in a new form outside the premises of the public school. This change offers you the opportunity to actively help shape the further development of Religious-Ethical Education, develop innovative educational formats, and sustainably influence the religious education of the future.
We shape leadership together: The tasks and workloads are designed for job sharing and can be flexibly distributed according to the competencies, experiences, and interests of the Principal and Vice-Principal.
Your tasks:
‒ Joint personnel leadership of religion and ethics teachers
‒ As Principal, you are responsible for the strategic direction as well as the budget and overall responsibility of the department.
‒ Further development of religious-ethical education in a changing environment
‒ Responsibility for quality development
‒ Promotion and support of projects, cooperations, and innovative educational formats
‒ Collaboration and networking with parishes, schools, authorities, and other partner organisations
‒ Quality and planning work (resource, hours, workload planning)

Your profile:
‒ Completed theology degree with professional induction from the Diocese of Basel (or equivalent qualification) or diploma in religious education (RPI)
‒ Several years of professional and leadership experience as well as experience in managing projects and change processes
‒ Solid teaching experience and a deep understanding of the practice of religious-ethical education as a basis for the further development of future-proof educational offerings
‒ Conceptual strength and experience in developing and implementing innovative educational offerings
‒ Open, dialogue-oriented theological attitude as well as familiarity with the Swiss education system
