Career, Study and Vocational Counsellor

The Office for Vocational Education (AFB) is a department of the Department of Education, Culture and Environmental Protection (EKUD) and implements the educational policy mandates of the federal government and canton in the field of vocational education and training. It is also a competence centre for questions regarding career, school and study choice as well as a supporting body throughout the entire professional career.
The Department of Career, Study and Vocational Counselling (BSLB) advises and informs young people and adults personally, independently and free of charge on questions relating to career, study and career path. The BSLB supports career choice, study choice or career planning and accompanies the planning of the professional future.
We are looking for a Career, Study and Vocational Counsellor (70–80 %) for the Office for Vocational Education starting 1 January 2027 or by arrangement.
- Advising and informing young people and adults on career, school and study choice as well as on shaping their professional career
- Supporting clients in using their own resources, acting responsibly and making independent decisions
- Maintaining cooperation with teachers of lower and upper secondary levels as well as vocational schools for career preparation and career planning
- Conducting information events for parents and classes
- Regular contact maintenance with schools, educational institutions, specialist offices and the economy
- Participation in projects and internal working groups
- A federally recognised qualification as a Career, Study and Vocational Counsellor or willingness to complete the training
- Advisory and information skills as well as expertise in psychology, career choice, study choice and career theories
- Confident and effective manner with young people and adults, parents and teachers
- Preferably knowledge of regional economic structures and the labour market
- An engaged, solution-oriented and resilient personality with very good communication skills
- Good oral and written expression in the German language;
- Good knowledge of several cantonal languages is an advantage
- Flexibility and good organisational skills, as well as a high degree of personal responsibility
