Scientific Assistant (m/f/d)
The research unit Forest and Soil Ecology investigates the impact of environmental changes on the functioning of forest ecosystems. In the Soil Biogeochemistry group, we are looking for a
3-month (immediate start or by arrangement) position as part of an SNF-funded project (PI: Peter Waldner) to study the nitrogen balance in forest ecosystems in Europe. We aim to measure the stable isotopic signature of nitrates and ammonium in precipitation as well as in soil solutions from a large number of long-term forest observation samples. The main tasks include the extraction of nitrate and ammonium from liquid samples and the determination of leaf properties. All methods and measurements will be conducted in state-of-the-art laboratories at WSL Birmensdorf. Additionally, occasional fieldwork in Swiss forests may be required.
You have recently completed or are about to complete a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Sciences, Forestry, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field. You find it easy to handle large sample volumes and document them, and you are already familiar with laboratory work. With your independent, structured, and precise working style, as well as your good organizational skills, you bring the ideal prerequisites for this position. Furthermore, you have good English language skills.
