What you can look forward to.
You will undertake a 14-month paid part-time training to become a train traffic controller. After successfully passing the final exam, you will actively contribute from the operations centre at Zurich Airport to ensuring that 9,000 passenger and 2,000 freight trains reach their destinations punctually and safely every day. Even during training, your work-life balance is important to us. Therefore, you can freely choose your practical days during the 60% training period and plan the remaining days well in advance for your life balance. Attractive working conditions are important to us, even with irregular working hours. Night and weekend work are additionally compensated – for example, 16 francs per hour for Sunday work. For night shifts, you also receive time bonuses of 10 to 30%. This means you have more free time than employees without night and weekend shifts.
What you can achieve.
- As a train traffic controller, you play an important role in the smooth running of rail traffic and have a great influence on customer satisfaction.
- You keep an overview of the assigned network and direct the trains running on it in an environmentally friendly manner.
- To do this, you communicate with team colleagues, train drivers, and control centres and are responsible for providing information to our customers at stations.
- If a disruption occurs, you respond safely and quickly to restore normal operations.
- In your daily work, you use a variety of systems. Accordingly, your work is based on trust in the interaction between humans and technology.
What you bring with you.
- For this demanding work, you are conscientious, reliable, a team player, and willing to work in a 24-hour shift system.
- Your interconnected thinking and independent working style help you react quickly and correctly in case of disruptions.
- You have completed a 3-year vocational training or the Matura (Swiss high school diploma).
- You are fluent in the language of the training location, both spoken and written (level C2), and ideally have knowledge of a second national language (level A1).
- You have perfect colour vision (no red/green colour blindness).
- During the application process, we will require a current criminal record and debt collection register extract (not older than 3 months). You can order these documents when invited for a personal interview.
Your salary and benefits.
Classification during the training corresponds to the function and age. More about the specific salary for this role can be found under Lateral Entry .
