In order to develop a joint pilot project between the Nursing Directorate and the Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology Department, HFR Fribourg – Cantonal Hospital is looking for a:
Specialised Nurse Practitioner (NP) in Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology
80-100% - Fixed-term contract for one year
Your mission:
- To practise advanced nursing care for patients in orthopaedic surgery, traumatology and orthogeriatrics within the defined legal, contractual and institutional framework
- To ensure cross-sectional care of hospitalised and outpatient patients, alternating between hospital wards and consultations according to the needs of the department and various teams
- To carry out clinical assessments, monitor patient progress and prescribe or adjust examinations and treatments according to established medical-nursing protocols
- To participate in elective preoperative admissions, postoperative follow-up, ward rounds, discharge preparation and coordination of the care pathway
- To provide postoperative follow-up and outpatient monitoring of defined orthopaedic situations in consultation, including clinical evaluation, wound care, control examinations and protocol-based adjustment of rehabilitation
- To coordinate the various professionals involved, inform and support patients and their relatives, and contribute to continuity of care between the hospital, attending physicians, rehabilitation and home care
- To collaborate closely with partner doctors and the medical team; to seek validation or medical takeover when situations exceed your competencies or require medical expertise or decision
- To participate in the development and updating of protocols, improvement of care quality and safety, and monitoring of clinical indicators of the pilot project
- To contribute to team training as well as clinical research and development activities
Your profile:
- You hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Swiss Red Cross
- You hold a Master of Science in Nursing, specialising as a Nurse Practitioner (MSc NP), or meet the requirements to practise the role
- You have at least 4 years of clinical nursing experience, ideally complemented by recognised experience or expertise in surgery, orthopaedics, traumatology or a related clinical field
- You possess strong skills in clinical assessment, clinical reasoning, care coordination and interprofessional collaboration
- You appreciate professional autonomy while working in close partnership with medical and nursing teams
- You are motivated to participate in building a new advanced practice model, developing protocols and evaluating an innovative pilot project
- You have advanced French language skills; knowledge of German and English is an advantage
We offer you:
- A position at the heart of an innovative institutional pilot project jointly developed by the Nursing Directorate and the Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology Department. You will join a clinical organisation enabling cross-sectional advanced practice between hospitalisation and consultation, with an evolving scope of activity according to acquired skills, protocols and departmental needs. Participation in some operating theatre activities may also be considered depending on needs, skills and institutional conditions.
- The position comprises approximately 90% clinical activity and 10% training and research activities. You will benefit from a formalised medical partnership, close collaboration with medical and nursing teams, and regular joint evaluation of the project allowing progressive adaptation of organisation and scope of activity.

Tasks
- You apply your advanced nursing practice skills in caring for patients in orthopaedic surgery, traumatology and orthogeriatrics, adhering to legal frameworks, agreed standards and internal hospital guidelines.
- You ensure cross-departmental care of inpatient and outpatient patients by working in hospital wards and consultations as required by the department and various teams.
- You conduct clinical assessments, monitor patient condition development and prescribe or adjust examinations and therapies in compliance with established medical-nursing protocols.
- You participate in preoperative preparation for elective admissions, postoperative follow-up, ward rounds, discharge preparation and coordination of the treatment pathway.
- You provide postoperative follow-up and outpatient monitoring of specific orthopaedic cases during consultations, including clinical evaluation, wound care, control examinations and protocol-based rehabilitation adjustments.

Profile

- At least 4 years of clinical nursing experience, ideally supplemented by experience or recognised expertise in surgery, orthopaedics, traumatology or a related clinical field
- Strong skills in clinical assessment and clinical reasoning as well as in care pathway coordination and interprofessional collaboration
- Enjoys professional independence as well as close and cooperative partnership with medical and nursing teams
- Motivated to contribute to the development of a new advanced practice model, protocol development and evaluation of an innovative pilot project
- High-level French; German and English skills are advantageous
