About the job
The Psychiatry Department of Emmental Hospital offers challenging positions for doctors, psychologists, nursing professionals, social workers, and administrative staff with opportunities for personal development and consideration of individual resources. In our manageable operation, the personality of each individual employee shapes the way we interact and collaborate. We regard individuality as an enrichment. We offer positions at both the Burgdorf and Langnau locations. We are an SIWF-recognised training centre.
Good psychiatry is created together. Are you a specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy – or close to completing your training? Do you want to take responsibility, contribute your ideas, and actively help shape a psychiatric service rather than merely managing existing processes?
Then we should get to know each other!
The Psychiatry Department of Emmental Hospital stands for short decision-making paths, close interprofessional collaboration, and an environment where diverse perspectives are explicitly welcomed. In our day clinic in Burgdorf, we support people with mental illnesses in a partial inpatient setting – committed, evidence-based, and with an eye for what people truly need.
We are looking for a personality who thinks professionally, convinces personally, and is eager to make a difference with us. Curiosity, team spirit, and the willingness to find good solutions together are at least as important to us.
40 to 100% – you contribute, and we will find the suitable model together.
With a smaller workload, your focus will be in the day clinic. With a higher workload, you can also participate in triage. Outpatient psychiatric-psychotherapeutic treatments are also possible. Do you already have your own practice? Even better: we are open to part-time models that can be sensibly combined with your practice activity.
For our Psychiatry Department at the Burgdorf location, we are seeking from 1 January 2027 or by agreement a
Senior Physician / Consultant Psychiatric Day Clinic, Triage, Outpatient Clinic (a) 40–100%
What awaits you with us – and what you can achieve
- Medicine with responsibility: You take on psychiatric diagnostics, treatment planning, and therapeutic support of our patients. You have the necessary professional scope for design and a team at your side.
- Teamwork instead of lone wolf: You work closely with various professional groups, coordinate treatment processes, and contribute your perspective to joint decisions. Good ideas have no specific professional or hierarchical status.
- Variety instead of routine: You conduct psychiatric-psychotherapeutic individual sessions, assess complex situations, and support people even in crises. Professional clarity and empathy are required.
- Participate, think along, help shape: You contribute your ideas to the further development of the day clinic and can – depending on workload – also help shape triage and the outpatient service. We welcome people who ask questions, challenge the status quo, and make constructive suggestions.
- Learn from each other: You participate in case discussions, share your knowledge, and benefit from professional exchange within the team. No one has to know everything – but we want to get better together.
- Work networked: You maintain contact with referring agencies, relatives, and treatment partners and contribute to good, continuous care.
What you bring
- A specialist title in psychiatry and psychotherapy or you are close to completion.
- Experience in psychiatric-psychotherapeutic treatment; experience in a partial inpatient setting is welcome but not mandatory.
- Enjoyment of complex clinical questions and the courage to think in a differentiated way even in uncertainty and to reflect decisions together.
- An independent, structured working style and a patient-oriented attitude.
- Team spirit, openness, and enthusiasm for interprofessional collaboration on an equal footing.
- Curiosity, initiative, and joy in not only using but further developing a service.
- And yes: humour helps. Not every treatment follows the textbook and not every day goes according to plan. All the more important is a team that sticks together and can laugh together even in demanding situations.

- Flexibility that fits life: A workload between 40 and 100%, with the possibility to suitably combine day clinic, triage, and outpatient work.
- Professional development: We support your further training and create space to learn from each other and build new skills.
- A meaningful task: You accompany people in challenging life situations and help shape treatment that is professionally sound and humanely attentive.
