Job description
The Global Studies Institute is an interfaculty centre of the University of Geneva combining the tradition of regional and international studies with developments in global governance. It favours interdisciplinarity in the study of international and regional relations in order to better understand the new challenges of the contemporary world in their entirety.
It is advertising a doctoral assistant position at 80% within the framework of the Bachelor in International Relations (BARI).
Field: law / international relations / global studies
Job description:
- Assist the course professor responsible within the BARI framework
- Supervise research project seminars in law (BARI) or other student supervision (tutorials, etc.)
- Monitor and mark exams as well as follow up with students
- Participate in the scientific activities of the GSI (conferences, workshops, etc.), particularly doctoral student activities (seminars, workshops, study days)
- Devote 50% of working time to preparing and writing the doctoral thesis
- Participate in national and international conferences
- Publish academic articles
Title and required skills
- Hold a Master’s degree recognised by the University of Geneva in law (an excellent/very good overall grade is an asset)
- Competence and interest in the targeted fields as well as the willingness to write a doctoral thesis in global studies (law and another discipline) or in law
- Demonstrate research work (dissertations, seminar work), preferably in the field of international criminal justice, transitional justice, and/or philosophy of law and legal reasoning
- Possess solid knowledge in the relevant fields and a clear research interest
- Ease in dealing with students (preferably with teaching experience), ability to work in a team and openness to interdisciplinarity
- Fluency in English and French (oral and written skills)
- Mastery of another foreign language desirable (Spanish, in particular, is an asset)
- Proficiency in database management tools and Excel
- Mastery of research tools useful in law, as well as generative AI tools compliant with UNIGE’s institutional policy

Additional information
The candidate will be hired on a two-year contract which may be renewed for two successive periods, respectively of two years and one year. The maximum duration of the assistant position is five years. The first year constitutes a probationary period during which the employment relationship may be terminated with a three-month notice period to the end of a month.
Salary: class 08/04 to 08/12; for 100%: CHF 68,357.- to CHF 81,246.- gross annual, subject to a temporary freeze on progression by decision of the Council of State.
