About the job
Specialist in Name Changes 80 - 100%The Civil Status Department is a specialised division of the municipal office of the Canton of Zurich.
We provide support for all questions relating to civil status and are responsible for the post-certification of foreign civil status events in the Cantons of Zurich and Schwyz as well as for name changes in the Canton of Zurich. In addition, we supervise the civil status offices in both cantons.
A name is more than an entry in the register.
It represents identity, life paths and personal decisions.
With us, you do not simply process applications – you accompany people in important moments.
From 1 January 2027 or by arrangement, we are looking for you.
Tasks
- You advise people and authorities on questions relating to name changes
- You independently conduct name change procedures and examine the requirements for approval
- You conduct personal interviews with children and young people in the context of their name change applications
- You coordinate the forwarding of certificates to Swiss representations abroad
- You actively contribute and take on additional tasks – depending on experience and interest (e.g. certificate officer in the special civil status office)
- You accompany and support our apprentices with modern methods on their path to becoming independent specialists
Profile
- You have completed commercial training
- You have experience in public administration, ideally related to name law (e.g. civil status, residents’ registration, etc.)
- You have completed training as a practical trainer or are willing to undertake this further training
- You make well-founded decisions and work in a structured manner
- You enjoy writing and are able to explain even complex issues clearly and correctly
- You maintain an overview even in demanding cases
- You handle sensitive topics with respect and empathy
