Professor for AI-Native Software Engineering (60-100%)
University of Applied Sciences in Computer Science FHNW, Institute for Mobile and Distributed Systems
Your tasks:
Shape the future of software engineering.
Generative AI and agent-based tools are fundamentally changing software development. Code is increasingly machine-generated, more and more often by multiple agents working in parallel. This shifts human responsibility more towards specification, architecture and verification.
For the Institute for Mobile and Distributed Systems at the University of Applied Sciences in Computer Science FHNW we are looking for a personality who combines profound software engineering expertise with practical experience in AI-native software development and shapes this field in teaching and applied research.
Your tasks:
- You teach our prospective computer science engineers in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in a practical and application-oriented manner: from the basics of software engineering with agile processes, design, architecture and quality assurance to specialisations in AI-native software development.
- You convey to students that work can be delegated to agents, but understanding cannot, and enable them to take responsibility for the engineering outcome.
- You supervise project and final theses and actively contribute to the profiling of "Software Engineering & Intelligent Technologies".
- You initiate, acquire and lead applied research and development projects with industry and university partners, for example on specification and verifiable code generation, quality assurance of generated code, modernisation of large codebases, integration of AI into software products or other topics. You lead the staff in your projects.
- You build a Software Engineering Lab that makes the competencies of the University of Applied Sciences in Computer Science visible in software engineering. Through the lab, you acquire research and service projects and bring topics into further education.
Your profile:
- You are well acquainted with the principles of software engineering and at home in agent-based development. You have practical experience with the corresponding tools and design processes so that agents are used productively, safely and with traceability.
- You have completed a degree in computer science, ideally with a doctorate. You have several years of proven experience in software development and in leading software projects, preferably with responsibility for architecture or quality of larger software systems.
- You continuously follow the rapid development of AI-native software development and adopt new approaches early, also with your own research contributions.
- You maintain a network with industry and research in Switzerland on which you can build when acquiring projects.
- You have a higher education didactic qualification or are willing to acquire it during the first years.
- You are technologically curious, think critically and are eager to innovate.
- You recognise good software, regardless of whether it was developed by humans or machines, and can convey this judgement.
- You combine scientific depth with practical implementation skills and want to actively shape the AI-driven transformation of software engineering, not just observe it.
Our working environment at the Brugg-Windisch campus and the Dreispitz campus in Basel, combined with high flexibility regarding working hours and location, provides a contemporary framework for our work. At the University of Applied Sciences in Technology, a culture of dialogue is cultivated, characterised by appreciation and trust. Short decision-making paths, a lean administration and large personal scope for design and action are considered important framework conditions for our success.
Workplace: Windisch or Basel
Will you soon be part of our team? We look forward to receiving your application by 30 November 2026
