Job Description

The CANSEARCH research platform in paediatric oncology and haematology at the University of Geneva is tasked with developing research in paediatric oncology and haematology, primarily in the field of individualised therapy (personalised medicine) in paediatric oncology and haematology.

To complete the CANSEARCH research platform team, we are looking for a

Assistant Professor at 80%

The main duties of the position are:

• Conduct fundamental research on paediatric acute leukaemias, notably T lymphoblastic and high cytogenetic risk myeloid leukaemias, with a particular interest in the mechanisms of leukaemogenesis;

• Develop and implement experimental approaches to characterise drug sensitivity profiles (drug profiling) and identify new therapeutic vulnerabilities;

• Study the molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in the initiation, progression and treatment resistance of paediatric leukaemias;

• Participate in the design, development and execution of research projects with high translational potential, linked to relevant experimental models (in vitro and/or in vivo), from project development to scientific publications;

• Participate in teaching and practical training of interns/students;

• Prepare files, scientific and technical reports, funding applications or projects requested by the supervisor;

• Participate in and present research results to working groups (lab meetings, various colloquia, seminars, working meetings and internal and external conferences);

• Publish at least 2 peer-reviewed manuscripts per year in a specialised paediatric haematology journal;

• Submit 2 to 3 scientific abstracts per year to international congresses;

• Participate in and present a project at the research day of the HUG paediatrics department.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• PhD or equivalent degree in molecular biology, cell biology, haematology, oncology, genetics or related field;

• Strong experience in fundamental research in haematology-oncology, ideally in acute leukaemias (lymphoblastic and/or myeloid);

• Experience with experimental approaches such as cell culture, in vitro and/or in vivo models, molecular biology (CRISPR/Cas9, RNA-seq, qPCR, Western blot, flow cytometry, etc.);

• Experience in drug profiling or functional screening (an asset);

• Skills in biological data analysis (basic statistics, use of R or Python); advanced bioinformatics skills are an asset;

• Postdoctoral or equivalent experience of 3 to 5 years preferred;

• Knowledge of legal and ethical aspects of fundamental research in human medicine;

• Excellent command of common IT tools (Microsoft Office, Adobe), scientific software (SPSS, R);

• Publication of at least 10 peer-reviewed manuscripts;

• Ability to work independently and in a team as well as interact with platforms providing specific techniques necessary for research projects;

• Respect for deadlines, professional rigour required;

• Fluency in English, spoken and written;

• Previous experience in conducting research projects in onco-haematology;

• Experience in studying oncogenic signalling pathways (e.g. kinases, phosphorylation cascades) and their regulation;

• Knowledge and/or experience in studying tyrosine kinase inhibitors and associated response or resistance mechanisms. Knowledge of the French language.

Desired Qualifications

• Previous experience in conducting research projects in onco-haematology;

• Experience in studying oncogenic signalling pathways (e.g. kinases, phosphorylation cascades) and their regulation;

• Knowledge and/or experience in studying tyrosine kinase inhibitors and associated response or resistance mechanisms. Knowledge of the French language.
