Your tasks

This research-oriented position at the Management of AI Lab at University of St.Gallen aims at the value-oriented use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in companies. The core research topics of the Lab are addressed both in scientific contributions and in practice-oriented projects, so that organizations can successfully use AI in productive IT applications in the future (

This research position focuses on AI portfolio management and design-oriented research on tool and method development to support early-stage AI-based innovations. As part of the PhD and your research, you will work closely with one of the leading e-commerce companies in Europe. Furthermore, you will be involved in central teaching courses of the Lab, such as Design Thinking for Artificial Intelligence.

The position offers an exciting environment in terms of content and excellent conditions for a doctorate on one of the future topics of business informatics.

Your profile

  • Master's degree with a grade average of at least 5.0 (equivalent to 2.0 in D and AT) in (business) computer science, (business) engineering, economics or related fields of study

  • Distinct analytical, structured and independent working style as well as first experience in writing scientific papers

  • Empathy and communication skills to work effectively with a wide range of contacts (in German and English)

  • Ideally, first professional experience, e.g. in consulting, data science, or also in the development of digital innovations

  • Basic knowledge in the field of Artificial Intelligence and willingness to learn more about it

  • A "get things done" mentality

Management of AI Lab

The Institute of Information Management (IWI-HSG) has been conducting application and design-oriented research at the interface between business and IT for more than 30 years. The Management of AI Lab is hosted at the chair of Prof. Dr. Walter Brenner and part of the institute.
