Job Description

About the role:

This 6-month contract position is embedded in the Catastrophe (Cat) Modeling EMEA & APAC team, which operates from Zurich and Singapore. It is part of the Cat Underwriting Office within the Global Cat Business Unit which is responsible for Cat Risk Modeling, Portfolio Analytics as well as Cat Research.

The Cat Modeling team is comprised of a group of highly skilled analysts, whose expertise is utilized throughout the company to support risk transfer decisions based on a robust scientifically based view of Cat risk.

Your core responsibility in this role is to provide timely, efficient and high-quality analytics to Underwriting, Actuarial and Risk Management to support managing the Cat risks of our clients by making well-informed risk transfer decisions.

In more detail your main tasks are to:

  • Performing cat modeling analytics in an efficient and high-quality manner by thorough exposure data analysis, running cat risk models, investigating the output for the year on year drivers of changes and communication of results.
  • Support of Cat portfolio aggregation exercises and regulatory reporting.

Qualifications

About you:

Quantifying the impact of Cat risk on our clients’ business is by its nature uncertain. You enjoy the challenge of balancing these uncertainties, adding value to the Underwriting process by using your analytical and communication skills where it can make the difference to the task at hand.

You are a passionate natural scientist, mathematician, actuary, engineer or computer scientist wanting to apply your deep analytical and technical knowledge around reinsurance catastrophe risk transfer decisions.

The ideal candidate would have the following qualifications and personal qualities:

  • A bachelor or masters degree (or students interested in an internship / ‘Betriebspraktikum’), in the field of natural sciences, mathematics, actuarial sciences, earthquake/wind engineering, computer science or a related discipline
  • Ability to prioritize and organize tasks under time constraints.
  • Pro-active, solution oriented with a high level of self-initiative.
  • Very good communication skills with the ability to present complex technical topics to non-technical audiences.
  • Proficient (written and verbal) in English, other languages are a plus.
  • Solid programming experience including knowledge on relational databases is a plus.

You are either an EU or Swiss citizen, or entitled to work in Switzerland.
