Engineer Manager
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & People Management
- Lead, coach and grow a team of Software Engineers, fostering a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.
- Meet regularly with direct reports, provide frequent and actionable feedback, and support individual goal-setting and career development.
- Make independent decisions for the team; actively build your skills in handling complex management situations.
- Lead recruiting efforts with support from peers and the Director, contributing to headcount planning.
Delivery & Execution
- Turn the product backlog into working software — effectively and operationally — by delegating clearly and ensuring tasks are completed according to acceptance criteria without micromanaging.
- Contribute to bug fixes, tech tasks, and small features without becoming a bottleneck for the team.
- Act as the team's "vacuum up chaos" function: protect your engineers' focus so they can deliver value and great features.
- Foster technical decision-making on the team, making final calls when necessary.
Technical Oversight
- Understand and champion agile and XP-driven software development practices.
- Maintain a solid understanding of data privacy, security, and the quality, observability, and robustness of the team's systems.
- Identify and address technical debt proactively in collaboration with architects and product partners.
Collaboration & Communication
- Be an example and proponent of Salt's values within and beyond your team.
- Inform and support others in acting on their development opportunities.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, solution analysts, and architects to ensure the team delivers impactful outcomes.
Skills & Qualifications
What you bring:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Proven experience leading and managing software engineering teams in an Agile/XP environment.
- Strong technical foundation — you understand how software is built, even if you no longer write it every day.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to give and receive candid feedback.
- Experience in a fast-moving product or telco environment is a plus.
- Fluency in French and English.
A Plus in Your Profile
We are embracing AI-assisted development as part of how we build software at Salt. Candidates with experience in this area will stand out :
- Hands-on experience with AI-based development tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, or similar).
- Ability to guide your team in the safe, effective, and responsible adoption of AI coding assistants.
- Understanding of how AI tools integrate into the SDLC — from code generation and review to testing and documentation.
- Curiosity about the evolving AI development landscape and enthusiasm for sharing learnings with your team.
